July 2023 Sunday Services

On Sunday July 2, 2023 at 10:00 a.m., Roberta Price will lead this in-person Open Readings service . Please bring readings, poetry, or music to share, on the theme of independence and the Fourth of July, or on a theme of your choice.  Please join us downstairs after the service for coffee and conversation.

On  Sunday, July 9 at 10:00 a.m., Gail DeVilbiss will lead this in-person service. Unitarian Universalist congregations affirm and promote seven Principles, which we hold as strong values and moral guides. We live out these Principles within a “living tradition” of wisdom and spirituality, drawn from sources as diverse as science, poetry, scripture, and personal experience. DeVilbiss will discuss the seven principles that Unitarian Universalists follow.

The Principles are not dogma or doctrine, but rather a guide for those of us who choose to join and participate in Unitarian Universalist religious communities.
1st Principle: The inherent worth and dignity of every person.
2nd Principle: Justice, equity and compassion in human relations.
3rd Principle: Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations.
4th Principle: A free and responsible search for truth and meaning.
5th Principle: The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large.
6th Principle: The goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all
7th Principle: Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are apart.

During the service participants may share a special movie, documentary, YouTube or webinar that they have viewed that reflects one of the seven principles outlined above. The fellowship often finds that selections that participants mention stimulate their interest and increase their knowledge and understanding. If you are interested in learning more about the UU fellowship join us this Sunday.  Please join us downstairs after the service for snacks, coffee and conversation.

On Sunday, July 16, at 10:00a.m., Theresa Rowe will lead this in-person Service, “How Can We Eat Ethically When We Live in a Food Desert?.” Please join us downstairs following the service for coffee and conversation. The Board Meeting follows the Coffee Hour.

On Sunday, July 23, at 10:00 a.m., Mike DeVilbiss will lead this in-person  Discussion Service.  We will select a discussion topic at random from a collection of ethical issues, after which Mike will lead a discussion in which everyone is invited to participate. Please join us downstairs after the service for coffee, snacks, and conversation.

On Sunday, July 30, at 10:00 a.m., Luke Crawford will lead this this Open Reading service on Zoom. You are invited to bring poetry, a reading, or music to share during the service, on themes of your choice. If you have music to share, please email music links or files to lukesanfordcrawford@gmail.com . As we believe there is no one right way to lead a religious or spiritual life and we value each individual’s spiritual journey, Open Readings services help us learn about each other’s paths, and can be some of our most special services. Visitors are welcome. For Zoom information please email information@mtvernonuuf.org . A virtual social hour follows the service.

Please check back through the month for updates. Please join us after Sunday services for coffee and conversation.
