August 2022 Sunday Services

In August we will continue with in-person services the first three weeks of the month, and the last Sunday on Zoom. In keeping with our caring principles and due to increased COVID-19 activity in our area, masks are strongly encouraged for in-person services. The Board will continue to assess the masking and in-person vs Zoom situation each month

Visitors are welcome to join us, in person at 1600 Isabella, Mt Vernon, on the first three Sundays this month at 10 AM, and on Zoom on the last Sunday of the month, 10 AM. To request the Zoom login link, please email information@mtvernonuuf.org  You can dial in to Zoom on a voice phone (need not be a smart phone), or use the Zoom link for computer, tablet or smartphone. Please let us know if you’d like to be added to our monthly email list.

On  Sunday, August 7, at 10:00 a.m., Roberta Price will lead this in-person service, “Avoiding the Road to Perdition,”  (possibly with an assist from Barbara). Roberta explains her topic as follows: “Shoot your murder scenes like a love scene and your love scenes like murders,” Alfred Hitchcock once told film-makers. That thought survived the blood and guts darkness of the Road to Perdition, a 2002 film with Paul Newman and Tom Hanks sending bullets across the 1931 Chicago gangster community. Yet, in truth, the film is all about the love between a scarred father, and his surviving son. In a world where relationships between a parent and child can often lead to danger and harm, how do we follow the road to understanding?

A social hour will follow the service.

On Sunday, August 14, at 10:00 a.m.,  Theresa Rowe will lead this  this in-person  Service or Open Readings. Open Readings can be some of our most special services as we learn about each individual’s unique spiritual paths.  A social hour will follow the service.

On Sunday, August  21, at 10:00a.m.,  Julie Quinn will lead this  in-person Service based on readings from Master of Arts in Christian Ministry and Restorative Arts program near Joliet A social hour will follow the service. The Board Meeting will follow the  social hour.

On Sunday, August 28, at 10:00 a.m., Susan Trotter will lead this service on the Value of Volunteering, on zoom. You are invited to bring poetry, a reading, or music to share during the service.  Visitors are welcome. For zoom information please email information@mtvernonuuf.org . A virtual social hour follows the service.
